2017 International Youth Gathering National Competition

IPA South Africa is offering two young people, age 16 & 17, the chance to experience an exciting adventure and represent South Africa as Ambassadors at the 2017 International Youth Gathering.
On Saturday, 29 July 2017, 40 children from more than 20 countries will gather in Johannesburg, South Africa for the official start of the 17th Annual International Youth Gathering, proudly hosted by the South African Section of the International Police Association.
For 2 weeks, participants will travel an estimated 2,550km, starting in Johannesburg then travel North to Pretoria, East to Durban, then all the way down the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern- and Western Cape until they reach the Mother City, Cape Town. Along the way, they will experience the sights, sounds and flavours of what South Africa has to offer.

Important Notes
Only 1 video entry per participant.
If you send multiple videos/recordings, only the first video received will be reviewed.
Video must be in good clear English. (Try to avoid background noises such as dogs barking etc.)
Video must not exceed 2 minutes.
Avoid copyrighted material, such as music.
Only the participant is allowed in the video.
Video must include a motivation and some knowledge of the IPA and South Africa.
You can submit an entry form now and send the video at a later stage. (Before 15 May 2017)

FAQ
What is the IYG?
Every year children and grandchildren of IPA members have the opportunity to travel and meet other young people from different social and cultural backgrounds to participate in the International Youth Gathering, a once in a lifetime experience.
Who can participate?
The IYG is open to all current IPA Member\’s children and grandchildren without distinction as to gender, race, colour, language or religion. Participants must have reached their 16th Birthday but not exceed their 18th Birthday at the start of the IYG.
When is the IYG?
The 2017 International Youth Gathering will be from Saturday, 29 July until Sunday, 13 August this year. Please note that the IYG will take place during the 3rd School Term for two weeks, special permission from the school\’s principal may be required.
Competition Terms and Conditions
- Instructions on how to enter and other details contained within promotional advertisements for this competition form part of the conditions of entry.
- By entering the competition, entrants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions.
- Participation in the competition is open to children and/or grandchildren of current South African IPA members only.
- Participation in the competition requires the completion of an entry form and the submission of a video clip under 2-minutes by the participant.
- The video entry must include the participant and display some knowledge about the IPA.
- The video must be of good audio quality and in the English language.
- The winner(s) must have reached the age of 16 but not have exceeded the age of 18 at the start of the event on 29 July 2017.
- The winner(s) will be permitted without distinction as to gender, race, colour, language or religion.
- The winner(s) will be responsible for their own travelling costs to Johannesburg for the start and from Cape Town on completion of the event.
- IPA South Africa will bear only the cost of the registration fee for the participant(s), worth R22,000.00 per participant.
- The prize is not transferable, is non-refundable, non-exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for cash.
- The closing date for an entry is 15 May 2017 at midnight, South African Standard Time (SAST).
- Winners will be selected by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of IPA South Africa. The NEC\’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- IPA South Africa reserves the right to terminate or temporarily suspend this Competition in the event of technical or other difficulties that might compromise its integrity.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, the International Police Association and its directors, officers, managers, employees and agents, shall not incur any liability to any person for any injury, claim, loss or damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise, as a result of entering into, or arising from any cause whatsoever or howsoever arising from their participation in, this Competition or at the International Youth Gathering.
- This Competition shall comply with and will be subject to, any peremptory provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (“CPA”) and the regulations promulgated thereunder, which are deemed to be incorporated herein (“Peremptory Provisions”). In the event of any conflict between these Rules and the Peremptory Provisions, the latter shall prevail. Copies of the CPA and the regulations promulgated thereunder are available on the Department of Trade and Industry Website: www.dti.gov.za.
- Any provision of these Rules or the Competition which is held to be invalid or unenforceable shall be ineffective to the extent of such invalidity or unenforceability without invalidating or rendering unenforceable the remaining provisions thereof.
- The laws of the Republic of South Africa govern these Rules and participants agree to be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
