SUMMARY:36TH NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING
DESCRIPTION:IPA South Africa’s 36th National Council Meeting hosted by IPA West Coast\nThe West Coast of South Africa has become renowned as an idyllic haven away from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life. People from all walks of life descend on these shores annually looking to reclaim their love for life and recharge their batteries. The charming fishing village of Velddrif is the ideal place for the next National Council Meeting as it offers solitude\, tranquillity and sincere hospitality – all key ingredients for the perfect Meeting venue. \nThe 2021 National Council Meeting will therefore be held at the Riviera Hotel\, Velddrif and hosted by the West Coast Region.  The Riviera Hotel is located in Velddrif and situated on the Berg River. Also in close proximity to many shops\, restaurants and other such convenient amenities. \nVelddrif is a coastal fishing town in the Bergrivier Local Municipality\, Western Cape\, South Africa. It is located near the estuary where the Berg River flows into St. Helena Bay.  The estuary is filled with wildlife and is home to around 30 000 birds.  Of the 30 000 different bird species found in the area\, 80 species are endemic to the Cape Coast. \nIPA West Coast Region is looking forward to hosting this event with IPA colleagues/friends/visitors from South Africa and Africa. \nNotes\n\nCost – R3\,250.00 per person to attend the conference.\nBookings – Registration and Payment must be completed and paid in full by 30 September 2021. No refunds after cut-off date.\nAccommodation – IPA delegates/observers/visitors and friends will only be accommodated for the entire period in question as the package given to the International Police Association (IPA) is available only on this condition.  This includes visitors and guest accompanying delegates and those arriving unannounced.\nVisitors – As decided during the previous National Council Meeting there will be no program for visitors. Visitors are more than welcome but will be responsible to entertain themselves.  As you are aware there are a variety of activities to entertain everyone’s needs in and around Velddrif.\nTransportation – Each attendee is liable for their own transport. Beautiful sunset and birdwatching cruises are on offer\, as well as morning and midday cruises. Safety comes first on these cruises and children are sure to love it! \nFor a local cultural experience the West Coast Art Gallery showcases the unique work of some of the leading artists and craftsmen along the West Coast. You’ll also find the only reed maze in South Africa here. \nIf you want to make the most of the outdoors\, perhaps a kayaking trip from Hopefield to Velddrif would entice you. Berg River Canooze offers a relaxing\, downstream trip\, stopping at various farms en route. You will find an abundance of birdlife along this route so there is no shortage of scenic beauty \nThe Berg River Canoe Marathon takes place once a year\, beginning in Paarl and ending in Velddrif. It takes place in July when the Berg River is at its highest\, and spans some 212km. If you are up for it\, this is the ultimate canoeing challenge and one of the toughest water races in the Western Cape.  \nThe Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve stretches all the way from Diep River\, in Cape Town\, to the Berg River of Velddrif. Biosphere trails are offered for groups of up to 12 people\, these trails lead you through all the breathtaking flora of this conserved area. Trails are guided and catered for and all meals are prepared locally in West Coast style. \n Where to eat\nOupa se Kos an Koffiestoor is the spot to go for freshly ground coffee\, breakfasts\, burgers and light meals. It’s the perfect place for a good coffee and a quick bite to eat. \nFamous for its delicious Sunday buffet lunch\, the Riviera Hotel also offers friendly service and beautiful views. Sports fans will be happy to know there is a big screen TV\, as well as a bar if you fancy a drink or two.  \nDie Vishuis is situated on the banks of the Berg River\, overlooking the old wooden jetties where giant pelicans like to bask in the sun. Die Vishuis is primarily a fish and seafood restaurant\, but other items are also served. This restaurant was once a real vishuis\, you will see the shells still embedded in the original sand walls.  \nTeyana’s Restaurant and Pub offers delicious food\, wine and music\, as well as wonderful views of the Berg River. \nDid you know?\n\nVelddrif is often misspelt as Veldrif\, Veldrift\, Feldtdrift\, and Veldrift.\nThe name is derived after a local farmer took his stock through a drift in the veld (field) to find grazing on the other side. \nBokkoms is a dried fish specialty\, and is a local favourite.
